Danzon 2018
Mercury Soul visited San Franciscos’s The Great Northern for Danzón, a show celebrating Latin American music. Featuring a headlining set by Rob Garza (of the legendary Thievery Corporation), with the first-ever live performance of music from his upcoming “Dissolve” EP, joined by singers Shana Halligan, Stee Downes, and Fare, as well as the Mercury Soul Orchestra featuring arrangements by Grammy-nominated composer/DJ Mason Bates.
Also on the program will be Astor Piazzolla’s famous Libertango and his rarely performed Concerto for Bandoneon, Mexican composer Arturo Márquez’s bombastically titillating Danzón No. 2, Severiano Briseño’s El Sinaloense, Heitor Villa-Lobos’ String Quartet No. 1, Daniel Ruggiero’s Osvaldo y Osvaldo, and Julián Peralta’s Pompeya. Performing will be critically acclaimed musicians of Redwood Tango Ensemble, Friction Quartet, and the Mercury Soul Orchestra.
This show will feature the salsa duo Salsamanía and a wild after-party led by DJs Holmar and Galen."
